Chloe Capital Portfolio Company Spotlight: MyLÚA Health

Check out the next edition of our series spotlighting our remarkable portfolio companies and the work they are doing to disrupt their industries!

Today we want to highlight Dr. Michael Conward, CTO and Co-Founder of MyLÚA Health – an innovative digital health platform providing empathetic AI solutions and community support to revolutionize women’s health journeys.

Read on to learn more about Michael and MyLÚA Health!

🩺 What They Do: At the core of MyLÚA Health’s mission is driving better women’s health outcomes and advancing health equity through their comprehensive digital platform. An AI virtual assistant, LÚA, acts as a trusted guide for women across all life stages – providing culturally-attuned insights on fertility, pregnancy, postpartum care, mental wellness and more. Their platform also features The Village – an interactive community that connects women with peers and experts for support. For health plans and employers, MyLÚA offers advanced analytics to understand population needs and coordinate personalized care between providers, payers, and members – taking an inclusive, evidence-based approach powered by empathetic AI solutions.

🩺 Why They Do It: MyLÚA Health was established after Co-Founder Uleea Santos’ traumatic birthing experience, where she was denied pain medication. This brought awareness to the disparities in the maternal care system, especially within their own communities as founders of color. They gained validation from maternal healthcare stakeholders, ultimately driving them to provide culturally inclusive, precision medicine for women’s health broadly. MyLÚA is a platform designed to simplify wellness, prioritize personalized care, and create a community where women feel seen, heard, and empowered.

🩺 How We Met: Chloe Capital was first introduced to the MyLÚA Health team at Upstate Venture Connect’s Unleashed Founder’s Retreat through a mutual connection, Anthony DeBonis, President of Troy Web Consulting. They subsequently joined the inaugural cohort of the NYCEDC Founder Fellowship where the team joined 20 other startups for investor connections, mentoring, and educational programming. At the conclusion of the program, MyLÚA Health was one of the outstanding companies we chose to invest in.

🩺 Chloe Effect: Michael calls out Chloe Capital’s “deep connections throughout the startup ecosystem” and access to impactful opportunities such as probono legal support, additional funding opportunities, and “a supportive Slack community of other founders/alumni” as key enablers for their growth. In return, Michael and the MyLÚA Health team actively participate in founder discussions and share opportunities with the Chloe community.

🩺 What is Next for MyLÚA Health: MyLÚA Health was recently awarded a grand prize in the NIH RADx Tech for Maternal Health Challenge where their product was successfully piloted in a clinical setting by the Atlanta Center for Microsystems Engineered Point-of-Care Technologies (ACME), a partnership between Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a component of the NIH-funded Point of Care Technologies Research Network (POCTRN). As they continue to pursue culturally inclusive, FDA approved, software-as-a-medical device, their product will be commercially available to users in Q1 of 2025. Chloe Capital Portfolio Company Spotlight: AuntFlow

Check out the next edition of our series spotlighting our remarkable portfolio companies and the work they are doing to disrupt their industries!

Today we want to highlight Claire Coder, CEO and Founder of Aunt Flow – designing a world where every bathroom outside the home offers free period products.

Read on to learn more about Claire and Aunt Flow!

🩸 What They Do: Aunt Flow provides free-vend dispensers stocked with tampons and pads for businesses and schools to make period products more accessible. They work with 900+ organizations including Phoenix Mercury, KIPP Schools, O’Hare International Airport, Google, and the University of California San Diego to name a few. 86% of women reportedly started their period in public without the supplies they needed. Providing Aunt Flow period products recuperates lost work hours, increases school attendance, and is just the right thing to do!

🩸 Why They Do It: After getting her period in public without the supplies she needed, Claire thought to herself – toilet paper is offered for free, why aren’t tampons and pads? At that moment, she decided to drop out of college and start Aunt Flow at 18 years old. She’s been on a mission to ensure everyone has access to period products ever since.

🩸 How We Met: We met Claire and the Aunt Flow team through introductions from Sharad Daswani at Spru Ventures and Jordan Barker at Bark Equities – both part of our extensive co-investor network. While many of our investments come through our accelerator programs, we also actively leverage our network to source investment opportunities that fit our investment thesis.

🩸 Chloe Effect: Aunt Flow has engaged across the Chloe Capital ecosystem. The team has leveraged the Chloe network for numerous introductions to potential customers, advocates, and candidates. Claire says it best, “we are insanely grateful for their network!”. Additionally, Claire actively engages in the Slack community, where she can ask any question and receive support and advice from fellow portfolio founders.

🩸 What is Next for Aunt Flow: Aunt Flow has recently made changes to its products and packaging to ensure they’re keeping menstruators – and the planet – front and center in all that they do. They have removed all plastic from their cartridge pad packaging and eliminated the paper branding strap on their cartridge pad bundles. In addition to the brand’s sustainability efforts, Aunt Flow is committed to supporting menstruators and increasing access to quality period care. With over two million students across the country relying on Aunt Flow’s period products in bathrooms across grade schools and universities, the brand decided to roll out 36-count boxes of tampons and pads to be sold online at goauntflow.com and on Amazon. Menstruators can now stock their homes with Aunt Flow’s well-loved pads and tampons. They also just launched their new complete sanitary disposal system, the combination of easily accessible plant-based disposal bags and designated touch-free bins promotes responsible disposal and increases hygiene for janitors and restroom users alike. The system also helps reduce environmental harm by keeping menstrual product waste out of our rivers and oceans through proper disposal.

Chloe Capital Portfolio Company Spotlight: ShearShare

Check out the third edition of our new series spotlighting our remarkable portfolio companies and the work they are doing to disrupt their industries!

Today we want to highlight Courtney Caldwell, CEO and Co-Founder of ShearShare  – rent space to work anywhere for any price for the beauty & barbering industry!

Read on to learn more about Courtney and ShearShare!

✂️ What They Do: ShearShare is a B2B platform that connects salon, spa, and barbershop owners to individual stylists to fill their unused salon space on demand. Salon and barbershop owners make money on their empty suites and stations, and licensed cosmetologists and barbers get access to professional, affordable space to work without having to sign a long-term contract or work by commission.

✂️ Why They Do It: As award-winning salon and barbershop owners, ShearShare was a problem that Courtney & the founding team was trying to solve for themselves. They quickly learned that 40% of salon and barbershop space goes unused every day, while the 1.6M licensed cosmetologists and barbers in the US are looking for flexible, affordable, professional space to work when and where they need it. They realized that we were on the right path when the “manual matching” they did for three years started to feel like a full-time job. This led them to build the first B2B mobile app that connects owners to pros to fill their empty space.

✂️ How We Met: Chloe Capital first reached out after ShearShare won the 43North competition in 2021. We were impressed with the experienced team and the vision to disrupt the salon industry.

✂️ Chloe Effect: Courtney says it best herself, “Chloe Capital has helped us in the most vital way – providing access to capital”. To pay it forward, ShearShare has plugged into our ecosystem by securing speakers for Chloe events and participating in both virtual and in-person meetups with the community.

✂️ What is Next for ShearShare: ShearShare has had a major year, securing notable clients such as JCPenney Salons, and partnerships with Lloyd’s of London and Mastercard. They’ve seen a 82% YoY increase in bookings and were awarded a 2024 Award of Excellence for Integrated Mobile Experiences from The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. There’s more on the horizon so stay tuned for updates!
